Of Caramel Popcorn

My second week passed in a flurry of activities. It has been a busy, busy week, probably as packed as my first but packed with different sort of things. Like obligations, particularly job hunting.

But aside from responsibilities, we manage to slot in many of my favourites! EasyWay honeydew relish tea with aloe vera and green apple jelly, Starbuck's Christmas toffee nut latte, a new book - The Memory Keeper's Daughter, a movie premiere (The Lovely Bones' cast arrived on a red carpet at the Event Cinemas! We didn't get to see them though. But it was still cool because we saw the paparazzi and beautiful people), 2012, caramel popcorn, grocery shopping, friends...

Now as I sit in front of the computer, chicken curry is simmering on the stove and my tummy is rumbling. I'm waiting for Ngar Huei and Sam to come over for dinner! :D The only thing lacking is the chef - of all people. Ah well, I'll wait for him to come home, tell me about his job and steal his nighttime away with maybe a movie? Dessert? :)

Oh yes, did I mention caramel popcorn? Today, Kai and I decided to buy "Popping corn" (Ok, so it really was Kai's brilliant idea). In Australia, they only ever have salted popcorn in the movies and Kai, well, he loves his caramel popcorn! It took us two tries to get our popcorn just right.

No, better than Just Right. It was AWESOME! :D What he did, in the successful round, was caramelised the sugar, and just before it turned caramel brown, he threw in the corn and poppoppop it went in the pot! Ah, sticky, sweet, corny goodness. Yums. :P It's pretty exciting because we now no longer have to moan about not having our favourite snack during the movies!

Speaking of movies, the next movie that I must watch is The Lovely Bones. I haven't yet read the book, but I heard it's really good. But books here are so expensive. Almost twice the price of that in Malaysia. :( But I'm getting the book, nonetheless! Although, I have to wait till January till Andre gets back.

In the past week...

I arrived in the morning and was greeted by a short-haired (Not orange, thank goodness) boy with a smile and a small bouquet of roses. :)

We headed to Bondi beach in the afternoon with a few friends. SO WINDY! And cold. And here I was, thinking that summer was all about sunshine! My first day saw us trying to go against strong winds, and yummy Hurricane ribs and Mars bars after! :D Was exhausted by the end of the day from the flight and all, but I had tonnes of fun sight-seeing with the Yeak family. Thanks Kar Yi for dinner.

On my second day, Kai, Sherlyn and I went to the city to watch Time Traveler's Wife! I loved Rachel McAdams in the movie! But, I wished they told her story more. Eric Bana made a good Henry Dethamble if I do say so myself. That was almost exactly how I pictured him to be! :) Budden, of course they didn't include so much. The book was way better.

Sherlyn brought us to this Spanish place in the city. I can't remember what it was called. All I remembered was the brilliant food and the burnt menu. :P

We went fishing with two other friends on the third day at Balmoral Beach. And I got the sunshine I wanted. In fact, I got more than I bargained for because at the end of the day I got a nasty sunburn. But 'tis alright because Kai's sunburn was several degrees worse than mine. :P We spent my third night and fourth day at Sherlyn's place. Kai had caught 14 fish that day! And boy, was he right when he said fresh fish taste different from the ones we buy at the market! Yums.

Kai and I went fishing again on my fifth day at the same place. This time with Ngar Huei. And here, I caught my first fish! And my second and third. But they all had to be let go because they were too puny. I was just happy I caught anything at all. After that Ngar Huei and I went walking around the beach with Kai's D90 and snappedsnappedsnapped away. :)

The best feeling is dipping your toes in soft, white sand!

Best snack to bring along :

And my favouritest picture of the whole lot was this! Taken by Ngar Huei:-

The boy wasn't actually crying. He had been playing in the water with his daddy. Tiny feet and all. And this was taken when we were in a small tunnel. Ngar Huei was randomly taking pictures and the boy, about three or four ran up to her and looked into the camera, just in time for her to snap this portrait before he went giggling away to his dad. :) Click for full view please!

And on my sixth day, we all (Sherlyn, Cherlyn, James, Peng Shun, Kai and I!) went to Bondi beach. Initially what we wanted to do was to hike from Bondi to Coogee which is about 9km in distance. But because we were all so hungry, we stopped at Bronte beach to eat and chill first. But then, of course, once we started chilling, we didn't want to get up and leave. So we stayed on. Sherlyn, Kai and I played in the (FREEZING COLD) water for awhile. Too bad I can't swim or I will be doing all sorts of somersaults in the water with the many, many kids around. :( We also worked on our tans and I'm so proud to say that I'm browner now!!! :D

At night was James's birthday thing at Lowenbrau, where we had pork knuckles, schnitzels, German sausages, mash potatoes, Lemon beer, sticky date pudding, ice-cream, and fantastic performances by three German men who can dance, sing and woo the crowd with Backstreet Boys' As Long As You Love Me. :D All with the right moves, too. *winks*

And that was that. My first week was filled with fun! :D I'm just hoping that job-hunting this week will be OK and that I will be able to find a job that pays alright. Pray for me people!

PS: You might have been wondering about the photo quality of the pictures. (Or not) They're all taken with Kai's new baby, the D90. And because of that, my Nikon S220 pales with comparison, by far! So no point taking pictures with my point-and-shoot when there's the mighty DSLR around! Hoho.

I am HERE!

Touched down yesterday. Must say, the feeling is more awesome than I imagined it would be. :P

But of course, I miss home. And everyone in it. :( Now I start a whole new life in a whole new place. Suddenly, everything feels so real! I realise that I have so much to do on my to-do list! I just pray that everything goes according to plan.

A step up. Hee :P

Fireflies

This song is currently on repeat on my playlist. I instantly fell in love with the song and the video after the boyfriend sent it to me yesterday.

Owl City - Fireflies

I love how he turns on the "magic" button and the toys start moving, almost coming alive in his room! I wish I had a magic button too. Then I'll be able to make my toys dance with me on random rainy days.

"I'd like to make myself believe
That planet Earth turns slowly."

The saddest part has got to be when he turned the magic off. :(
